about
While The Canyon Observer is busy bringing their new album into existence you can snack on this lovely tune.
"Last summer, which now seems like ages ago, we shut ourselves in the studio for a couple of days to put our minds together and finish creating this song. We had a few skeleton edits, but we wanted to do the complete song, just brainstorm it - and as always, the meaning eluded us. So at one point we were outside having a break, eating bread and drinking wine like the pure Christians that we aren't, and we stumbled upon some dentures in the grass. It was an amazing and bizarre find, so obviously we brought it back to the studio. Later that day, we had a few local musician friends over to do more holy communion stuff with the wine, and we got to talking about the dentures, as one of the locals said that an old lady had committed suicide on the train tracks just next to the studio and that the dentures had to have belonged to her. Now we know they might not have been her dentures, but what are the chances that they weren't? Considering that two of us have parents that committed suicide, the odd dentures just rounded off the song and gave it meaning, and so “Come home and break my bones” came to fruition." Oppressive, heavy grindcore that throws in so many different additional elements, including a whole lot of complex time changes and riffs. "Our Hollow" definitely pays off after multiple listens as there is a hell of a lot going on. But as impressive as the music is, the pointed poetic lyrics are the huge takeaway for me. Make sure to give these lines the attention they deserve, which makes the album that much more rewarding. A very impressive statement. bcb723

Swimming in a black oily lake at night under extinguished stars. And I swear I didn't read the lyrics before I wrote this!
Love me intelligent metal, and this is highly intelligent. How can a couple of riffs get so deep to the very core of your thinking brain?
And technically, these riffs are perfect, and so is the songwriting. Brilliant album. YomaBarr

I don't know if there is such a thing as post grind, but it is exactly what comes to my mind when listening to this album. Being firmly and undeniably rooted in grind, Unfurl amplify their music with influences from various other genres, including post hardcore, post rock and black metal. Don't let that deter you, as The Waking Void does not once t̵a̵s̵t̵e̵ sound like a stale, musical bouillabaise! It will cleave your skull cap in one moment to mend the wound in the next. Hideously beautiful! David Fischer
